I got a girl's name while waiting in line at the office cafeteria!

I had to go to the cafeteria by myself during lunch time today because my office mates still had work to do, and when I got there I went for a glass of water by going to the water cooler right by the door. As I was standing there, I saw a cute girl come in and we made eye contact for a second or two, then I looked back at my glass of water which was about to become full and had my drink. The cute girl went straight for the counter to inquire about something, and at that moment I saw an old friend of mine walk in so I talked with that person for a bit, still by the water cooler at this point.

After about a minute of chit-chat with my old friend, we both kind of wandered towards the counter while still talking because that's what we were both in the cafeteria for in the first place: to order food! So I came up and as it turned out, the cute girl was still there. She was holding one of those giant Chupa Chups lollipops in her right hand. I don't know what got into me, but I just felt like making a joke about the lollipop right then and there. I ended up just asking her how much they were selling the lollipops for, which she answered by telling me that she didn't know. And in my mind I was like "WTF I thought by now you'd have already asked for the price of the thing..." Well, maybe she was just holding it and was asking the counter lady about something else.

Anyway, the cute girl was smiling. And I guess she got curious because she then asked me, "Do I know you?" Which I didn't know how to respond to at first, because I really thought she'd flake on me or whatever and not even respond in a friendly way. I guess I seemed friendly then. I just told her, "No, well, you don't know me yet. I'm carrotplanter." I tried to shake her left hand but maybe she just got weirded out or confused at this point, and she kind of just looked down first, then back at me while smiling. A few moments later, she put the lollipop back down on the counter to shake my right hand instead, introducing herself as Karen. I just asked her maybe two more questions that I threw out at random, so it didn't feel like the conversation was going anywhere. I probably could have talked a bit more to her but at that point I ran out of things to say, so after a few more moments she politely excused herself and went out of the pantry.

Anyway, I felt really psyched by how easily I approached that cute girl, introduced myself, got her name, and even shook her hand. I was so excited that even just that is enough for me to make this field report! Hopefully, I can post another FR in the future. By then, I should be telling you how I fucking did it again.
