Yeah, back to the basics with this post, I know. I actually feel like this is an epiphany because I've always been so conflicted.

There is so much controversy about direct vs. indirect openers, whether or not you should compliment a girl on a date, and what to use as a compliment. I've given this serious thought and have reflected on my experiences and all of the advice I've read and have reached a conclusion: Compliment.

Stay with me.

Guys like Mark Manson or W. Anton stress using honesty and directness to approach women and obviously this works (much better in certain demographics mind you) but I think it needs tweaking. I can only imagine how many times a week beautiful women are told how pretty they are, the shit loses its meaning to them and is often misconstrued as you just saying what you need to say. It also opens zero doors for conversation.

Very "gamey" PUAs tend to use indirect openers to challenge and intrigue women. Again, this works and can be fun but it can be more tiring when intent of some kind isn't stated and used as a catalyst.

The solution: When approaching, if you need to use a canned opener, compliment only her hair or clothing, whichever you like best. In the American culture this seems to have just the right blend of thoughtfulness, restraint, and display of intent.

Again, a funny situational opener is ideal, but sometimes showing intent even after the opener can help a lot.

When you see her again for a date use a similar compliment when you first see her and make it the only one she gets all night in regards to her appearance. Alternatively you can say "You look nice."

These types of compliments have always gotten me farthest, on approach or on a date. When I think about it, I'm surprised it took me this long to recognize this as a sticking point for me, the results have been clear.

If you're still calling bullshit, approach your ass off and find out which one works best.

Happy poon hunting, gentlemen.
