Its essentially the same as how you would approach it if it was a bunch of woman except now you have the possibility of one of them beating you up out of nowhere. Really with men just figure out the dynamics of why they are here sooner and TRY not to become the alpha male of the new group.

People gave some good tips here, I like to focus more on the meta.

These approaches are difficult and honestly its best to approach girls who are alone or with a friend or two at most. The more people in the group or vicinity, the more energy and exerperince you need to overcome obstacles as there are increasingly more variables you need to be aware of or manage to execute successfully, unless you're replying on pure luck.

That said, it depends on the group dynamic. Generally, there are two ways to go about this. You either approach as someone extremely friendly and work your way through the group, balancing your display of interest for the girl while giving the rest of the group required attention so as to keep resistance at bay. Alternatively, depending on your state/relative status, you could go in as highly dominant, potentially ignoring or more agressively disarming potential detractors.

The different approaches will elicit different energies. The former will rely more on being collectively liked, the latter is more of the raw primitive dominant alpha get-your-panties-wet vibe. If your frame is tight, despite rejection by the whole group, it might really turn on one of the girls who will come right to you and ignore her friends. Again, it depends, but generally the former is more socially acceptable and can be more effective depending your personality and state. It's all about right place at the right time.

Now, assuming you fail at either approach, in the former you will be seen as a dude who wanted to talk to the girl (depending on how obvious you made your interest - everyone knows anyways) but was a "nice guy", in the latter you may come across as an aggressive "asshole". Neither is good, but the latter might get you punched in the face. Either way, if there are dudes who are relatively more 'alpha' than you in the group, you will not succeed regardless of your schmoozing.

Best approaches are

A. Try to pull her out from the group instantly.

Pros: makes it a one set immediately.

Cons: likely to fail if she's engaged with the group activity or has a close bond with the members.

B. Go indirect with the entire group, then try to break her off at the first opportunity.

Pros: most likely to work if logistics are good

Cons: requires time to isolate her, can waste time if logistics are bad

C. Go direct with her in front of the group.

Pros: similar time profile to a normal set. Can work well with a higher degree of skill

Cons: social pressure will effect her decision in ways that can be hard to predict and control.

Best imo is to try and read which of these fits the scenario best. If she's looking/stepping away from the group then A. If you know or suspect they'll be around for a while and feel the girl is worth the time investment start with B, otherwise C is the catch all.
