Also have you tried just observing people for one full day without talking to anyone else? It's actually pretty fascinating.

Doing what quazzy suggested can work a bit. Just sit in a place and people watch while trying to make guesses about their character. If you're really bold, you can make your guesses, then go up and ask them a question. A perfect combination would be doing this and Mystery's "opinion" approach. Pick-Up and Coldreading practice all in one!

Most of the times I make myself an image of the girl depending on their clothes and jewlery (social value) and the way they look at stuff (mental value). Intelligent girls have a totally different gaze than shallow girls.

Besides that, I'm lucky to have a lot of natural empathy (it's maybe the only natural feature I have, btw) so I can really cold read people without putting much effort, but always giving a lot of importance to clothing and gazing. Firm legs and torso might suggest that she practices sports; that's not much information but a good start. People who practice sports usually pay more attention to ethical values (veganism, activism, etc) than those who don't.

I'd say that stereotypes are usually true, so don't be rude but keep them in mind.

I've got a book on it, one professional magicians and "psychics" use. When I find it I'll PM you the title. I've gotten pretty scary good at it. I can usually tell somebody what they do for a living, what their hobbies are, and whether they have siblings. I also can often tell what they eat and how healthy they are.

Sometimes it's fun, but not very nice and ultimately DLV (like being a bully), to bust a girl on being constipated in front of her friends. The look of shock is priceless.

Is cold reading something that I could learn about and create a routine without spending months practicing and studying it?

The whole point of cold reading is that it consists of making statements that are so general and non committal that the given statement can be applied to like 90% of people that you meet and they'd all think it was specific to them. This means you just have to learn a few generic cold reads and drop them in the conversation at the right time. This is something I need to start doing, the few times I've done it I've usually had a very good reaction.

An example:

"You seem like the type of person who can be quite reserved around people you've only just met, but once you get to know them, and have figured them out, you really become quite confident around them"

This is true for almost anyone, baring people that are hugely confident, yet when said to a girl in set whose a bit quiet, it can seem really specific. Cold reading is literally a scam.

If you're looking to get really specific (e.g. guessing what they do based on the way they dress / act) then that's more a warm read. As Quazzy says, people watching can be great for this, and I think it's an impressive skill.
