Ok first thing, what's a binary question trap? It's something I've noticed that rulebook thumpers tend to use in order to trap their opponents into a compromise. One of the main people who use this are police detectives, they'll trap their catchees in simple binary questions: "Were you at this place at #pm yes or no?" "Did you think what you were doing was illegal" "Do you think you did any wrong in the eyes of the law" If you answer no, you're fucked and are essentially denying the breaking of a "rule"(loosely put). But if you say yes, you're admitting to a fault that is completely out-of-context except for how the, in this case, the detectives want it to see. It's reminiscent of the elementary school stuff your mates used to ask to fuck around like the: Did you know your mom was gay?, it comes from the same vein but much more subtle. There's a lot of fallacies and people that like getting into semantics just for the sake of doing it. You'll encounter it a lot with envious or annoying co-workers. What's an RP way of dealing with fallacies and this fallacy in-particular?
