I feel like this is something that needs to be said because I see it all over the place on reddit. If you feel that you may fall under the category of being a nice guy, keep reading. So why do nice guys finish last? Let’s start from the beginning so in men with “nice guy syndrome” they devise some kind of hidden contract in their head. The contract being that “if i’m nice to a girl she HAS to be nice to me” but, he does not communicate this to the girl he is talking to. He then forms a friendship with the girl he is interested in. Now that the “nice guy” has a good friendship with the girl, he is under the impression that they’re now super close and that because he likes her, she must like him back. So what happens next is that either out of the blue or super upfront they tell the girl about their feelings whilst being under the impression that they should like them back. But obviously, she rejects him because she was not expecting it at all and it becomes really awkward. She didn’t expect it because she was unaware in the first place that he had any relationship intentions. What she expected, was a friend. In conclusion, if you’re interested in a girl, let it be known in the first place that you are interested. Don’t just stay silent and form a friendship just so you can ruin it by the lack of communication of what your intentions are. Also keep in mind that it is not 100 percent certain that a girl will like you back if you are nice to her, especially if shes only established you as a friend. So get rid off the “if i’m nice to her she should be nice to me” mind set. Not every girl is gonna like you and that’s okay. Also don’t confess out of the blue when you have never communicated your feelings with them for such a long time and she’s shown no signs of being romantically interested. The chances of success are slim. You could literally be attractive, funny, smart whatever and she’d still reject you because of how out of the blue it is. It’s stressful for her and can even come across as creepy. Communication is key, and don’t always expect things in return.
