Male here, I haven't been proactive at finding people on OkCupid, but I generally respond to girls if they're interesting. Even if we never meet, giving someone else an ego boost is nice. Eh, here are a few things that I like and don't like in a message: Do: Be short, be unique, provide an obvious opening to respond to, and be direct.

"Hey, I see you like zombie movies. I'm having a bitch of a time deciding how to outfit my impenetrable mountain hideout. A little help? I'm Gaston and I enjoy cooking, commitment, am incredibly attractive and love bench pressing Jane Austen novels."

Don't: Don't force the other person to do all of the work of finding a mutual interest to talk about, Don't be creepy, Do not be creepy, for the love of god, do not be creepy.

"now if only i could find some boys to maketh babies with. cute babies that plant trees instead of kill them! ha!

I'm on the same page. Haven't answered all the match up questions yet but typed out my profile and threw 2 pics up. One girl "winked" at me but she was pretty unattractive so I didn't bother responding.

I'm planning on being fairly passive and let girls find me but who knows...

I find the online game to be hard as hell to work, it's just easier to approach and seal the deal with women in real life from my experience. Be sure to have good photos, and keep your profile interesting but don't pour out your life's biography, no one wants to read that. Also check this out.
