HORRIBLE line. Never seem indecisive, boring, or bored. This line achieved all three. You should have said "come meet me at [bar]!" Don't invite yourself out, make something happen.

I also hate putting the ball in a girl's court to call you, because if attraction is not very strong, there's a very high chance of her not doing it even if she does somewhat like you. It's like giving your number to a girl you meet, even if she wants to date you the chances of her not calling are huge. I would have said "I'll text you when I meet [mutual friend] so you can come join us".

You've set up a group thing, which is also a pretty weak move. Even if you do meet up with her tonight, next time you need to bite the bullet and get her to come out just with you.

The pants line and the busy until then line are both pretty solid. I would maybe have gone for something a little more jokey like "don't bother, [bar] is pants optional tonight. just make sure you don't wear your granny panties!"

Wrong. You always have plans when you invite a girl out. You just signaled that you're lonely and bored, which means you are boring. Your plans can always change as the night progresses, if you want to run into her or her plans are cooler than yours; but you can't fix being boring. And being boring is a death sentence for attraction.

If I don't actually have plans that night, I'll just say, "Hey, I'm gonna be downtown for dinner tonight with an old friend, but I should be free after 9. Meet me at X bar at 9:30."

ME: you're not wearing pants? damn.

This feels creepy to me, but I wasn't there. Sexual innuendo is better in person, and rarely good over the phone or text. And, this isn't a very good example of it. When in doubt, say nothing.

ME: yeah, [NAME]. and I don't even live here! whats wrong with you? (there was a little pause here as we laughed) you should call me in two hours so we can find each other.

You should have said, "I'll text you later, when I know when I'm free."

But, this would assume a lot more positivity in the conversation...this girl doesn't really care one way or another about seeing you tonight, and she definitely won't call you in two hours, because even if she did want to see you tonight, girls almost never call guys. It's always a mistake to leave the ball in her court, because girls just don't call guys. They might text, but calling is very rare and requires a lot of attraction. Also, asking her to call you is unattractive and needy.

I don't believe you have any attraction here, and this phone call didn't help.

I wanted to post a response but Cheddar and intjpua already beat me to it. But, in case you need any further confirmation:

Terrible. Boring. Needy. Friendless. Although you may be NONE of those things, which i'm sure you aren't, you came across that way.

ME: you're not wearing pants? damn.

I would have ignored that as she was probably trying to get a rise from you. And you failed. big time. I may have even re-framed it by saying "that's gross". She would have laughed for sure.

ME: yeah, [NAME]. and I don't even live here! whats wrong with you? (there was a little pause here as we laughed) you should call me in two hours so we can find each other.

A little try hard. A simple "cool, i'll meet you at x bar at 9:00" would have been fine. Don't over think things. Overall, you did OK. I don't think you ruined anything, but it could have been better.
