Okay, unfortunately this does need an explanation of the situation so I'll try to make it reasonable.

I've been an AFC for a long time, and I'm finally starting to make efforts to get over it and get past AA and learn what to really do. So right now I'm on vacation in Japan, specifically, Kyoto this week. Anyway, I went to a club on Tuesday night with a few people I met at my hostel, a gay girl and 2 other guys. It was a quiet night, but over the course of the night there were probably 20-30 different girls there. Now, I opened up and talked to or danced with a good 75% of them. However, it was all shit. For me and everyone else at the club, you might get a girl to dance with you a bit, but she'd just do the holding hands at a distance dance. If you tried to go any further you wouldn't get any immediate resistance, but they'd all just kind of giggle like a middle school girl and wander off pretty fast. Definitely wasn't just me either, exact same thing to every guy I saw try anything.

Then tonight I go thinking that maybe a Thursday could be better than a Tuesday, and it's a little better. However, I decide I feel lazy and I'm going to play indifferent and see if I can draw the attention to me. I spent the night mostly just dancing and having a few drinks, and didn't really do much directly. However, I've got a good sense of rhythm so I was able to draw most of the attention and clearly be the center of what was going on for a few hours. The only advance I made was early on just putting my hand out towards one girl while I was on the way to getting a drink, and just laughing it off and not showing any care or even trying to push it when it didn't instantly lead to her coming to the dance floor with me. I've got most of the Japanese guys watching me and doing a few drinks together. Even had another group of foreign guys just walk up and say hi to hang out.

Now, I haven't done anything, but there's this girl that is clearly watching me, more so than the others (and most are at least a bit). I'm dancing, facing the other way and she just backs into me and starts dancing against me back to back. I'm playing indifferent so I don't react, just let her do it and keep doing the same dance I was doing, and she backs off a bit. Keep going the same thing and she does it again, this time I sort of stop, gently grab her near the waist and turn around to see her face (I've seen it before but she doesn't know that) and kind of nod an "alright whatever" kind of nod. She dances a little near me and backs off again. The third time she comes up while I'm facing her and just grinds on me. I put my arm on her waist but don't make any major move and she dances there about 10 seconds before going off again.

An AMOG comes in, he's clearly a pretty good dancer and is opening up sets all around the room, I dance up with him the same way I've been doing with the guys all night and we give some mutual respect, and he tries with the girl who's been approaching me and clearly gets nothing. She again backs up and starts dancing with me while I'm facing the other way, and I reach back and grab her hand a bit while putting my other hand on her waist, and it goes for a short time then she wanders off again.

This whole time I occasionally see her talking with her friend and this guy who seems to be an acquaintance of hers and I'm pretty sure I catch them pointing at me out of the corner of my eye a few time, but shortly after the fourth time brushing up on me, they all leave. I'm not sure if I missed a point where I should have quickly escalated or if it's just that the club has just been crap these 2 days. I did see some of the girls doing pretty flirtatious dances with guys (up to basically jumping up and being held up with their legs around the guy while doing a dry hump kinda thing) but they all left the guys again pretty quick after any of that, so I really don't know what was up with them.

tl;dr: I went to a club where every example I saw was girls flirting a bit then running away like a middle school dance. I had one girl demonstrate interest on multiple occasions while I was playing indifferent, but she left and I don't know if it was me missing the time to escalate or if it was just a bad club for trying to pick anyone up.
