Location: Gas Station

I decided to travel to the local gas station (about a corner away) because they've got a Dunkin Donuts. I was wearing a clean sweater and paint stained mesh shorts. The gas station was empty but for the D/D worker and the owner. They weren't talking. The owner was buried in a crossword puzzle. I entered and greeted him (I'm there a lot). We chatted extremely briefly- I asked him "Hey buddy, how are you doing?" and he said, "Good, how are you." I parroted his answer.

The girl behing the counter wasn't gorgeous. She was a lot hotter going than coming. Her booty was huge. You could have easily host the next Super Bowl on it. She was making eye contact back but not really smiling.

My opener: "How are you doing."

I use it because the way people respond tells me how far I'm likely to get. I'm big on tonality. Her voice had that robotic quality that retail/food service people inevitably fall into. So she was a little zonked out. At this point, stating a conversation would get nowhere because her energy level seemed way too low. She was also slouching quite a bit, which to me says that she is being introverted. Probably deep in thought and bored out of her mind.

I asked for a donut, but instead I said, "What kind of donut do you like?"

She laughed and said, "Me?" She also popped up immediately. Pretty nice to see that she was responding.

"Yeah, you."

"Well, I don't like donuts, and I usually don't eat here, but I get the French Crueller."

"Those, huh?"

"Yeah," and she laughed again. Now she was smiling at me. She was a lot prettier when she was smiling.

"Ok, well give me one of those. I better like this," I warned her. I figured now was as good a time as any to try and keep the banter up. I was going to say something like, "What do I do if I don't like this? Can I come back to talk to your manager?" or do the whole, "The kind of donut you like says alot about you." but that doesn't matter because the door bell tinkled. I look up, and this freaking black Adonis comes striding in. He decked out like he's sponsored by Ed Hardy, and he hands this bitch a picture of two puppies in soft focus frolicking on a field.

"Hey, my number's on the back there. If it goes to voicemail, you better leave me a message," and he smiled two rows of perfect white teeth and bounced. She turns it over and starts cooing at picture. She immediately slouched back over and starts reading it.

"One ninety eight please," she said, holding out her hand. She never looked back at me. I gave her the money, said goodbye to the owner and bounced.

I wasn't rolling out to hit on chicks; she only became a target after she turned around. So, I definitely did the wrong thing by not re-engaging. I deflated. Anyways, just wanted to throw this up here because I feel like it reflects the many chances we get every day. Stay sharp.
