Hey guys, thought I'd share my 'template' for cold approaches, The times specified are only guidelines (as is the content) but I've found it a reasonably accurate outline of getting #'s with a likelier chance of day 2's. (Rescently I've gotten sick of k-closing as it rarely leads to a follow up and nearly always is followed by flaking)
0:00 – Opening; not exchanging personal information, but a question or statement about the environment or the actual person
0:05 – Follow up; maintain this confident persona, stay on it, inject enthusiasm into a following statement to their retort.
0:15 – Development: At this point its established you’re not just having a passing word between each other, keep the topic but move the discussion (don’t introduce new material) as it will allow you to establish a stronger comfort, so when you do introduce new material it’ll stick for longer and be easier.
0:30 – Introductions; not necessarily introducing yourself but at this point begin exchanging personal information, enquire as to what they do, Do not interview them
1:00 – Development; keep the exchange going, stay on track with their information and unless they ask you something keep it relevant to them and what they’ve said.
2:00 – Value adding; At this point they should have enquired about something personal, don’t be boring tell them something factual but at the same time be interesting with it.
5:00 – Maintenance; By this point the conversation is comfortably ‘balanced’, let them ultimately talk more about themselves through follow up questions and genuinely showing interest in them. Make sure you’re not interviewing them.
10:00 – Transition: Around this period you want to get them to go somewhere else with you, getting a drink, checking out another room, anything as it will show comfort (potential hand holding escalation) and will appear to show a longer/stronger relationship you’re sharing. Once your established together at new location continue building rapport (if possible open in the new location with previous used material and THEN from there you can introduce new ideas)
20:00 – Closing: Proceeding this you share a decent understanding of each other’s information, suggest you may have to go find your friends soon but you’d really like to continue this conversation another time, get the #-close but at the same time suggest ideas for what you could do in the future, be paramount to not appear clingy when you suggest potential meeting ups. Say your goodbyes, go for the K-close IF it’s natural although ideally 30 min’s+ of knowing each other time would be ideal before this.
Footnote; after reading "How to win friends and influence people" (Which I highly recommend to anyone PUA or not) by becoming geniunely interested in the other person conversation threading is so much easier and enjoyable for both parties.
