A few things I want to point out...

Tonight at the bar I spent about 2 hours chatting this girl up, eventually leading her to the dancefloor where it was getting heavy to say the least.

Too long. You should be getting physical within the first few minutes. Or else you'll have the 2-hour-go-nowhere set. What a fucking waste of time and energy

On the stairs, some random guy who supposedly knows her (though I found out only met her at a different bar last week and thought he had hit it off with her) comes, drags her away, sits between me and her, and makes it very difficult for me to even talk to her.

Yeah, this guy knows what he's doing. I hope you were taking notes because you got out-gamed, and he executed this perfectly.

She talks to him for a little bit, while i'm left wondering what to do

Congrats, you are now orbiting and looking awkward. Instead if figuring out what to do about this guy and how you can take the girl back, you should have gamed BOTH of them. Make friends with the guy. Ignore the girl for a bit and focus on the guy and become his bro. That way there's no competing for this girl, which is beta as fuck. Maybe buy a round of shots and tell a funny story. Whatever you do, don't sit there quietly and try to interject every few minutes. You come off as try-hard.

If all else fails, go hit on other girls for fucks sake. You're a man with options, god damnit. Do it right in front of her if you have to. It will show her that you're the more attractive man, and then she'll be fighting for your attention instead.

Keep practicing and don't get discouraged. This shit happens from time to time, but take my advice next time this happens. You'll be better off.

If a guy comes up just start seducing him. Leave the KINO out of it though. Okay well maybe a little... But keep it to a minimum! Touch to assert dominance. Not hookup. Unless you swing that way. I don't judge.

Stand up, say you need to move around a bit, and take her with you. That being said, you spent way too long talking and futzing around. In all likelihood she wanted you but because you failed to pull the trigger she got bored. I wouldn't be surprised if she coded her friend to cock-block you so you'd go away. Now for the practical advice:

Whenever ANYONE comes into the group from out of the blue, you immediately acknowledge them, kill them with kindness, and figure out what their relationship is, if any. Ideally you should have already known well in advance who she was there with and what her plans are or later. When someone walks up like that, here's the general way it should go:

"Hey, you must be xyz. We were just talking about you! How you been, about time I got to meet some of abc's friends tonight."

If you're there with friends you should start looking to merge groups and then peel off with your girl again.

Oh, and don't forget the nuclear option of "How long you guys been bf & gf?" If he's an orbiter he's going to get crushed, if even for a moment, when she blurts out "Oh, we're not together!"

When a guy cockblocks out from nowhere, you need to acknowledge him and make him feel as uncomfortable as he can be. Like say, when he's talking, tap him on the shoulder. 90% of the time he will stop talking and feel emasculated.

Don't worry too much about it. The more you know.

How do I prevent it or at least keep her interested?

She wasn't that interested.

Things you can do, position yourselves together, like pull her onto your lap or against you, and don't let him sit in between you two. Keep up your attraction and dominance in her presence so you can quickly suggest you move somewhere new away from the guy. Learn to AMOG and show you are the one she should stick with.

Now that you have seen it happen, do the same thing next week if you see her with another guy :)

Unfortunately he tried to do his thing and you both lost out. The kamikaze.

If things were going well with this girl then you hanging around on the periphery while this guy tries to make his move is only going to lower your value to her.

My suggestion in this situation would be to force her to make a decision, but without being a dick about it. Saying something like "I'm going to the bar, would you like to come" in a friendly manner demonstrates your value because you're clear that you're not putting up with this other guy hanging around. If she comes with you, you're golden, if not, you've lost out to this guy but at least you haven't wasted too much time hanging around.

The second choice if you are feeling confident, you can AMOG him by keeping him around but showing you are the better selection, i.e better conversation, more fun. This is a slightly more challenging approach but there is less brinkmanship involved. Eventually he gets the message and leaves.

Here’s a scenario:

You’re on a lake, fishing. There’s quite a few other boats out there and they seem to be catching some of the fish. The other fishermen are surrounded by other fish and some of the fish look like they’re gonna go for the bait. Why the FUCK would you spend 2 hours in one small section of the lake, throwing the same bait over and over again.

If that fish ain’t gonna bite in 2-5min she isn’t gonna bite in 20min, 2h, 2days, 2weeks…you see what I’m trying to say?

This is by no means the only solution, but here's how I reacted to a similiar situation a few weeks ago: Walk away and start taking to other people. A little while later, walk up to both of them, look right at him, say, "Mind if I borrow her for a dance?" (what's he gonna say? no?) Take her on the dance floor, dance for a song, then ask for her number.

I'm having a third date tomorrow night with the girl with whom I did this. If I hadn't done this, I probably never would have seen her again.

From my limited knowledge and practice of game(100's of sets): She was interested in you. When the other guy came he AMOGed you, so this lowered your value in her eyes and at this point she probably lost any interest she had in you.

What you could have done: 1) If she was more interested in you in the first place she wouldn't have let the other guy drag her away. 2) Other than that it comes down to an Amog battle, I'm not a specialist in this area so I don't know what you should do either.

Just my 5 cents, take it with a big grain of salt!
