As a long-time lurker, but short-time practitioner (recently broke up with g/f), I feel that this is the absolutely correct mindset to start out with. Next time, you'll get that number. And if you don't? Well, you get to make out with another hottie. Success equals more confidence, which equals better success. The cycle of awesome.

Not trying to be a downer, but sounds like some good luck to me. I can't tell you the number of times I got buzzed, exploded with energy and just spontaneously ask girls to dance only to have them walk away, give some BS excuse, or hide with her friends. Conversely, there have been very few times when it actually does work the way you described.
