Has anyone here ever heard of the Dark Triad personality group? Do you think there's anything that can be learned from it?

Hmm. In brief, most of what appears on this subred is Machiavellianism. The name comes from the book 'The Prince' where a prince is advised in the operation of his kingdom by an advisor who is coldly calculating, manipulative and politically strategic of relations with neighbouring kingdoms. Consider the Narcissistic contention that you 'leave her better'.

These are all problems with empathy. Narcissists don't feel it, Machiavellians use it to manipulate and Psychopaths dont feel it, but know they don't feel it and can conceal it (someone can probably clarify that).

Your contention that women go for people who display dark triad personalities is a bit of a stretch, I think what you mean is, once women find out they are with someone who has fooled them into believing that they have empathy which is actually not present, they are surprised or remorseful. You might want to cross post this to /r/psychology to get some more clinical opinions.

I just find this stuff interesting, and there are lots of signs that its true. Look at the movies that women really flock for. Thought it was interesting that a female friend of mine, when we were watching "X-Men: First Class", she was very much attracted to Magneto. Yeah, the actor playing him is physically attractive, but what she found sexy was the way he basically went around killing people in the beginning of the movie.

And the woman who wants to save her criminal, impulsive boyfriend has become a cliche. I know one. She wanted to get away from him, but she always went back. Always the romantic.

Practical lesson? Either die the hero, or live long enough to become the villain. Sorry, that's not it. I mean, most of us probably just don't have what it takes to become truly successful with women. These personality features aren't acquired traits, you're born with them, and it takes medication and therapy to rid someone of them. Wonder if medication and therapy can help us acquire them...

I've heard the evolutionary explanation is the sexy sons hypothesis. Just know that if you're not that successful with women, it ain't all bad. You might have 99 problems and a bitch ain't one. Alphas have their problems too.
