The best way to approach this is start early. Chat people up in line and on the street. Approach groups of girls and tell them you're visiting, looking for the next big party bar to go to. You'd be surprised how intruiged they might be by you and how easy it is to get invited along places. Once you're there you have social proof and are probably in a pretty good mood.

This also holds true for bartenders and bouncers and you should definitely chat them up every venue.

What I do is talk to and open as many (usually mixed) sets as possible starting as early as possible, and usually eject after a few mins. Once Ive done this a couple of times, I will go back and reopen some of the same sets I clicked with and then I am usually in the group and no longer out alone.

Open people, guys or girls, doesn't matter, who are alone, 2-sets, and 3-sets. Arrive early and talk to as many people as possible once you arrive. Always worked for me. That way, if people ask you, "Where are your friends?" Just point to the friendliest person you talked to earlier in the night. Social proof -- check.

I used to tell people that I was supposed to meet a friend at the bar but the friend baled at the last moment, now I was there alone. Then the girls would immediately absorb me into their group and I could work from the inside.
