Escalate refers to the idea that you need to create comfort and attraction at the same time; comfort without attraction is the friend zone, and attraction without comfort is the skumbag zone. You have to be more and more intimate or you will not end the night with anything more than an awkward hug. So you start by touching her elbow or shoulder and proceed over time to the hand and small of her back or hips (if you get that far). You start with stuff any non-stranger would be comfortable with, and any time you sense a withdrawal from your touch you de-escalate back down for a bit before you try again.

A girl that has let you have your hand on the small of her back while you walk around the entire night is going to kiss you. I promise.

I am currently looking at some new materials from Love Systems, they have a new system called "The Triad Model." You have 3 areas where you have to escalate: Emotional, Physical, and Logistical.

Emotional escalation is the usual system we think about: approach, attraction, qualification, comfort, and seduction. That's the general "Emotional Progression model" that most PUA systems are based on.

Physical escalation is mostly what we call Kino Escalation. The DiCarlo Escalation Ladder is the classic document on this subject.

Logistical Escalation is the interesting new bit. It is an escalation that progressively gets her out of her world, and into your bed. Some of it is "social logistics," like if is she out with her friends, you have to split her from them so they don't block you. Some of it is location escalation, like can you isolate her, bounce to a new place, get increasing privacy until you are alone together in bed.

Have a fun conversation, preferably just a hair risque, create an artificial silence, look her in the eyes, then kiss her.

Or anything like that, but a solid kiss early in the interaction sets a nice precedent, especially when you're a cool motherfucker about it and you know to stay off her for at least an hour or so afterwards and not use it as an excuse to start pawing her in the bar, etc.
