I was told to do an FR bc I’m actually doing the StyleLife challenge from Strauss' Rules of the Game. (Brief Background: Strauss’ book Rules of the Game proposes a 30-day challenge, by the end of which you will have a date. That’s a given. But you should also be a bit better equipped at picking up ladies in general. Each day has a number of missions, seem to be 3-4 on average so far.) Inexplicably to me, I was told that no one had gotten past day 6. Maybe you guys are doing a different one, because the first days were pretty easy. If people are actually interested, I’ll put these out one day at a time, and perhaps it will motivate me to finish… I’ve never done an FR before, so if there’s something I should be emphasizing, or deemphasizing, let me know. Or if you want more direct quotes, etc. Also, let me know how to link one day to the next one
And so it begins.
Day 1:
Mission 1: Evaluate yourself. Wrote down things I liked about myself, what I would like to change, how people see me, so on. Mission 2: read this brief thing on limiting beliefs.. basically a crash course on cognitive therapy. Not too important for an FR. Mission 3: Small talk with five strangers. I work in a hospital, and so every time I went to meet a new patient I fulfilled this. Not a problem, nothing exciting.
Day 2:
Mission 1: Set goals. So I wrote down my goals in life, “be a cardiologist, go on to teach others, start a nonprofit to benefit international health.” Yada yada. Basically about being more ambitious, positive, goal-oriented. It has a lot of fill in the blanks. Mission 2: optional hypnosis. Skipped. Aint nobody got time for that. Mission 3: Make eye contact w 5 strangers while making small talk. Again, not really a problem. Knocked out in first hour of day at work.
Day 3: it starts to get a little real.
Mission1: don’t shower/shave. I actually didn’t do that. It’s really not that important. I ended up working out and there was no way I was going to just stay gross all day.
Mission 2: Speak w confidence. There’s a number of kind of silly exercises to help you project your voice and speak confidently. They all involve taping yourself with an audio recorder. I felt pretty silly, but did all of them anyway. The idea is to begin to have a bigger, more confident presence.
Mission 3: Call three random numbers and get people to give you movie suggestions. This is to learn to change interaction in the direction you want without making ppl uncomfortable. The hardest part of this was dialing a number that actually worked. But I think it was also a useful learning experience. The first two calls, I used the example in the book: “Hey, is Katie there? Oh no? Well, do you have any movie recommendations?” That example is shit. The request doesn’t follow from the pretense of calling. I ended up using the “oh I thought this was moviephone,” and ended up calling actual business numbers after many failed random number attempts. What ended up working was, “Oh, this isn’t moviephone? Dang. Well I really need a movie suggestion, bc I have a date tonight and I have no idea where to take her.” The girl that picked up laughed and suggested Life of Pi. Continuing the conversation with some jokes, she told me she would love to go see that movie on a date. The guy I called said the hobbit was supposed to be really good. I said, “supposed to? dude. I can’t leave this to chance!” He laughed, “ya man, my friend saw it, I think itll work for you.” I thought two of that mission was enough. i had the idea, and the whole finding a number thing was tedious.
Tomorrow... day 4. I have to actually talk to girls!
EDIT: Day 4 is up. Should i go slower than posting one per day? maybe I will.
