I have a deep voice. I can't tell how loud I'm talking, I never have any idea if I'm at the right volume. My theory is that people with deep voices like mine can't really tell how loud we're talking. I didn't even know I was quiet until sometime this year (turn 28 tomorrow!), when a few buddies told me.
Point of the story: Every time I open my mouth, I have no idea what volume will come out. I think I scream sometimes when I start to talk, but I'm not sure, so I end up backing off, and almost always end up mumbling. I'm a confident guy, I just can't fucking tell how loud I'm talking/singing. Any tips?
Everything below can be ignored by most. I type too much.
(I figure this is why: Lower frequencies travel better through obstructions, but don't travel as far. Thus, I hear my voice passing from the vocal chords to the ear in a straight line through the skull more than you do, whereas you hear the waves through the air more than I do. The sound from the air is a better approximation of what others will hear.)
So I don't beat up my confidence, I'll list some positives. Chicks love my voice once they get to know me. Girls sometimes like to masturbate while I talk on the phone, and don't even tell me until (occasionally) later. At least one girl has had an orgasm from me talking sexy and breathing on her, without anyone touching her. Some particularly vulnerable slice of the female population will walk by me, then give themselves whiplash stopping to talk to me when they hear my voice. I was doing an open mic night and I heard "Johnny Cash" multiple times from the crowd in between songs.
Just listing pros so I can try to stay positive, I'm pretty frustrated after this open mic night tonight. Nobody could hear me, and nobody can ever hear me.
