I'm a woman and the only reason I am posting on this rather odd subreddit is because I have had far too many missed connections on public transportation.

One time this guy released my backpack from the subway doors and we seriously made broken eye contact for like 5 minutes. I'm too shy to initiate but we could have got my number if he asked. However my end goal would be a date and not just sex, but I'm also a bit of a good girl.

"Oh, thanks"

"So, where are you heading? Wait, let me guess, on the way home from work, or on the way to meet some friends"

"Into town to meet some of my friends, and you?" (girls in Norway are usually really passive)

"Meeting up with a friend I haven't seen since he traveled to Afghanistan with the army 6 months ago, I'm both exited and a little worried"

"Oh, have a friend which is going through some rough times after he came home, hope he is doing ok"

"Me to. I'm off at the next stop, tell you what. Lets exchange numbers, I'll buy you a drink later tonight"

Usually girls don't go any further than giving away their number and plans to meet up again. It's hard to build rapport on such a short amount off time, and in that sort of setting. Be direct in your approach.

If she doesn't hold eye contact with you right away, if she doesn't keep looking at you, then don't even bother.

Nothing wrong with approaching someone at a club or party, but on public transport? As a woman, it's so awkward when guys try to do this. She's probably on her way to do her banking or buy some milk and not interested in flirting.
