Anyone traveled solo for an extended period in another country, but without staying in hostels and having hostel insta-friends? How did you manage finding other people to hang with, and how did you manage things like eating lunch, dinner, alone so often?

I'm in S America for a few months, I'm running game and trying to meet people, but just getting put out with having to grab so many lunches and dinners alone. Fyi I'm using AirBnB not hostels.
