Is the general consensus on distance basically don't do it unless you're already in an established relationship?

Context: Met a girl at an event in town, she stayed for the weekend and we had a good time and hooked up. She flew back to where she's from and while I really do like her a lot, realistically it's best to write it off as a good experience but not something that's likely to continue given the practicality of the situation. I should just focus on continuing to game girls locally, right?
