This is my first post to seddit, so forgive me if I don't use the acronyms.
I was hanging out in a coffee shop in the downtown area of my small college town. The shop is small and cozy, with couches and a hipster vibe. I go there regularly to write, and today was no different.
I sat down at a table and immediately notice a cute white girl, brunette, freckles, blue eyes, sitting at the table next to me. She was with two middle aged women, and they were talking. I noticed her looking at me out of the corner of my eye a couple times, and I decided to look over.
We made eye contact. I smiled, she smiled back and looked away, continuing to talk with her group. I looked over a few more times before we made eye contact again. She smiles, I smile back, we both look away.
Now, before this I had never cold approached a woman before with the intention of getting her number. I'm 24, have been in and out of a few long term relationships most of my life and have very little experience approaching women.
Usually, I just meet girls at parties or through mutual friends. I've been told that I'm good looking, but I struggle with emotional insecurity and feel inadequate often, thus why I haven't really approached women before.
I don't know why, but I felt compelled to introduce myself. I didn't want to interrupt whatever she was doing, it looked like an interview, so I waited and kept writing. About five minutes later, they all started to get up. This was my chance.
I closed my laptop and got up. I walked outside after them and walked slowly ahead of the group. The women went one way and the girl kept walking my way.
I turned around, my heart racing, and said, "Hey!"
"Hi!" she replied. Both of our tones were enthusiastic, like two friends seeing each other across the hall.
"How are you?" I said
"I'm good, how are you?" she replied.
"I'm great. I'm fourson" I said, offering my hand.
She shook it. "I'm T----, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too," I said. "I wanted to introduce myself because you were smiling at me, and I like to talk to cute people who smile at me."
She smiled and said, "I thought you were laughing at me."
We kept walking and I asked her about what she was doing in the coffee shop. Turns out the ladies were giving her advice about what to do after graduation. She's graduating this semester.
I asked what they were telling her, made a few jokes about not knowing what you want to be when you grow up, and asked some more questions about her life and interests.
She then told me that it was very bold of me to approach her like that, and asked about my life. We talked and walked about a half mile to campus, I found out some of her interests, that she was interested in travelling and did yoga. I made fun of her for making decisions based off travel photos on the Internet, made fun of myself for not being flexible, to which she replied that she was very flexible. I said I'd remember that and smiled.
She asked about my interests and we talked about me for a bit, then we hit her destination.
"Well, I have to go," she said. "Maybe I can take your number and we can get some coffee sometime."
SHE asked ME for MY number. Huge confidence boost. My face was plastered with a smile.
We swapped numbers, I got hers first then called, to make sure she gave me the right number. Sure enough, her phone lit up.
"OK, I'll call you later." I said, and I lightly touched her shoulder as I turned and walked away.
So, in summary, cold approached a girl in daytime, sober, for the first time, she asked for my number. Huge success. Thanks for the advice seddit, couldn't have done it without you.
