Going to a bar at a college by myself. Can I get any tips to help me out?

I started going solo to bars a couple months ago, and you will definitely love it once you get comfortable with it. I've written a list of tips before, but I'll start from scratch:

1. It's only awkward if you feel awkward - nobody else really cares. I like to start by just sitting at the bar alone and relaxing for a bit. I'll look around, chat with the bar tender or the people next to me, and put myself in a comfortable and confident mindset. There's been a few times where girls have approached me while I've done this. And at least half the time a girl will walk up to the bar, order a drink, gently bump into me, then apologize. Always attempt to start a conversation when this happens.

2. Make sure you talk to guys too. In fact, I'll usually start by making smalltalk with guys to get warmed up, but sometimes they end up being really cool and fun people - and many of them will practically force shots of alcohol down your throat. But be warned: a lot of guys will blow you out much harder then any girl. I think it comes from a misguided idea that talking to other guys will distract them from meeting girls, but being more social in general only helps your chances.

3. Don't get too drunk. This was an early mistake I made, and it definitely cost me. Let's extend it a bit: try not to be more drunk than any girl you're hitting on. There's really a "sweet spot." It's buzzed enough to increase your confidence and social-ness, but sober enough that you can think and talk clearly.

4. Remember the basics: Speak clearly, confidently, and with intent. Don't get stuck in "interview mode" talking to girls, and make them put a little effort into the conversation. Be sure to use keno escalation. Make eye contact. Use her name often. If you think she likes you, ask for her number. If you're getting close, try to get her in a private spot and kiss her. See if she wants to the continue the night at your or her place.

But most importantly: HAVE FUN!

Order a nice drink at the bar. Ensure nice, welcoming posture. Smile. Don't be over eager to speak with people. (May come across as needy) Speak to people nicely when people speak to you.

Then go from there.

What helps when I go to the bar alone is my relationship with the barman/barmaid. A lot of times a barman introduced me to the girls that came and order their drinks.

Or sometimes you just talk to the guy(s) next to you and you talk about girls in the bar and stuff. They can soon become your friends and then you proceed to have a night at the bar with friends.

The bottom line is: Even if you go to the bar alone, you are never alone. It's a social place and people will talk to you because we like it.
