This post was in part inspired by an earlier post where some guy approached a cute asian girl and was shot down.

[FR] : There's this pretty cute asian girl in my class and discussion section that I have been noticing for a little while. I know that she's a foreign student from her accent. Fast forward to today and I sat down in front of her knowing we would probably get grouped together for a discussion; our group ended up being she and I and two other people, one of which I knew. Basically I took charge of the group, guided it along, and it turned in to she and I talking about the subject. I was sure to include the other occasionally just to mix it up a bit. There was a lot of eye contact, obviously, and I messed around a little bit with the triangle gaze, which she seemed pretty receptive to. The subject matter was fairly deep, we were talking about desire and Dionysian tendencies vs. Appollonian tendencies, release, things like that. More or less the perfect subject matter to build off of for an approach. I'd also like to think that this discussion built my rapport and at least somewhat formed an emotional connection between my group and myself. After class I saw her standing outside of another class and approached. I said hi, complimented this dope winney the pooh back pack she had, etc. and "officially" introduced myself to her. Throughout this entire conversation she was extremely giggly and receptive so I figured I'd sink it. I asked her if she was a foreign student, which I already knew she was, then proceeded to say that I was interested in spending a term studying abroad and would love to talk to her about herself, where she's from, her experience, and just get to know her. I presented the idea that we could get coffee or dinner sometime and chat. She said that she would love to and I asked her for her number so that we could arrange it, explaining that I was really busy this week (fuck midterms) but maybe over the weekend or next week we could meet up and she happily agreed. After getting her number I parted ways with her, sent her mine about a half hour later when I remembered, and got a little smiley face as an acknowledgement.

[Tip] : If you want to pick up a foreign student, especially an asian one where the cultural disconnect is fairly sizable and they tend to be of a more demure disposition, express interest in studying abroad and finding out about her experience. You give her value, make you interesting, and provide a reason to meet up and chat. Of course where you take it from there is up to you
