Take today for example, where I had some good practice opening some sets. I had to go gift shopping for some friends, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to hit the mall and practice my day game.

I decided to warm up and ask a girl about some construction going on at the mall. I was rusty, as I haven't practiced in a bit, so it doesn't go smoothly. In fact, I stumbled to get the question out, and eventually started asking her about recommendations about what gift I should get. She just stares at my blankly, and says sorry she doesn't know and that she's in a hurry and walks off. I think to myself, what the hell. But whatever: warmup...

I then open a few more with the gift question recommendation, but I had a string of shut downs where they told me sorry and that they're meeting someone in a hurry. Holy fuck, is everyone in the god damn mall in a hurry today? I then use the same opening for a cute employee taking a break in the outdoor promenade with her coffee. We chat for a bit, and she turns out she goes to a community college close to where I live like 40 minutes away from this mall! Internally, the strange thing was, I had no plan and intention of asking her out... that is, until after she tells me she has to go back to work. Fuck, I can't believe I let her go without asking her to hang out some time.

Okay fine, I'm warmed up and let's go! Maybe with something more direct this time. So I passed this girl working at a watch store and I ask her which one her she wants her boyfriend to get her. She giggles a bit saying she doesn't have one, and asks me if I want to buy a watch for my girlfriend. I tell her well I need to get a girlfriend first, and if she was interested in fulfilling that role. She giggles more, and then looks into the store where I think her manager was staring at her... Fuck, I thought. She then gets back to serious mode, and I lost the chance, so I said thanks and walked away. Oh well, I wouldn't have made the jump anyways...

A few more details: while I was walking around, I found a handful of other cute girls, but I kept questioning if they were minors or not. In that situation do you open anyways? I like a little innocence and youth, but don't want to be the creep to hit on a high schooler.

Okay, back to my sets. I finish with the mall, and meet up with some friends at a coffee shop. While waiting for someone nearby the restroom. I noticed two girls nearby speaking my mother tongue (Chinese). Oh yay, I get to practice my language, I thought. So I opened up in Chinese and asked where they were from, and had an awesome conversation about growing up in the states, and how they thought my American accent was cute, even initiating the introduction of their names. Awesome, I thought! But not quite yet... the guy in the restroom finally came out... what did I do (drum roll) cut mid sentence and rushed in the restroom, and I didn't even have to go. I think I might have slammed my head into the mirror really hard at that point. Fuck fuck, I deserve to be single. I walk out, and they were gone. Fuck me.

So I reflected on the failure of the day, and returned to chatting with my friends and still had a great time with them. But fuck, I rarely had this much time to go out to practice sets, as my job keeps me busy, and I blew it on multiple occasions!!
