Approaching walking girls?

It's never a good idea to approach a girl from behind. If anything, get her attention first so she turns around then introduce yourself.

I never approached anyone from behind. I have initiated small talk with a few people while walking beside them. It would only work in an area with few people. Why? Imagine walking in a crowded street, you initiate small talk with a girl you like but 5 other people think you're talking to them and you have to sort out the awkward, "Oh, I'm sorry I was talking to..."

It's much easier to approach a girl walking in your direction. You walk towards her but you stop a few feet away from her, make sure you don't get too close to her when you approach, make eye contact with her and say, "Excuse me miss" then open with your line.

Few things to consider,

1) You're a total stranger so don't get too close to her until after you opened, established rapport, and found some iois.
2) Remember the 3 second rule? This is extremely important. Imagine you walking down the street and a girl you think is cute is walking towards you. You freak out so you just stand there staring at her or you suddenly stop to look around or wallow around. You're going to look creepy and stupid. Or you keep walking because you're too nervous to talk to her but you muster up the courage until after she walks past you. So what do you? You follow her, perhaps you rush to catch up to her. What is she going to think when she sees you following her? Better hope she doesnt have pepper spray - a lot city girls I've met have a can, some even carry knives, one girl I know illegaly carries a stun gun - and hope there aren't any police around because they'll assume the worst. TL;DR; unless you want to be mistaken for a stalker/rapist approach right away.
3) If you're approaching girls who are walking chances are it will be at a mall, school, street, etc. where being approached is not normal. Comparing to a bar or club where girls not only find it normal to be approached, they expect it. So try to open with a line to put them at ease. I go with, "Excuse me miss, I know this is random/weird/strange but I think you're cute and had to meet you."

Anyway, it's not hard and I actually have a lot of luck on the street rather than a club or whatever.
