She's pretty much saying, "if we're still singe at 40 lets get married".

So she's saying.

You currently have good chemistry.

She wouldn't mind spending her life with you

Which means she's obviously attracted to you.

Probably going to sit in my room and listen to emo music all day.

And this kind of behaviour, if it's an obvious characteristic of yours is probably why she said what she said instead of just saying we have great character lets get together right now.

Acting butthurt like a woman in a sitcom would have (probably) made you look like a bitch.being angry is not attractive at all, there are way better ways to handle thing than get angry. you probably took it way the wrong way. after high school people generally stop trying to say things to hurt peoples feelings or try to set them up.

I wouldn't get too mad about it. It's more of a saying like, "if we're not married by 40 we should get together". I've had a girl say something like that to me before. We were just friends (no unrequited feelings) so I wasn't mad and I just laughed and agreed. I don't know how you feel about this girl but if such a small comment is making you mad, please consider making a follow up post giving us your exact coordinates in the friend zone.

Don't hate yourself so much. You're not going to be able to relax enough for healthy people to stay with you if you overthink a comment like that (which isn't uncommon at all) and it drives you up a wall.

The only reason she is saying that is because it was played out as a funny and cool thing in a sitcom. She is just trying to live out a fantasy, and do something cool she saw on TV. It is a kind of lame and insecure thing to do, but she did not actually put as much meaning into it as you did.

In that situation, calling it out as a sitcom reference and making jokes about it would "mix things up". I would probably disengage after that regardless because I'd take offense, like you, to be honest. Even if she did not put that much meaning into it, it is still a shitty thing to say. In the sitcoms, this is the kind of thing a girl says when she feels that the power dynamic is solidly in her favor.
