Honestly, fuck that. The recent explosion about "rape culture" and sexual harassment are bringing us to a point where emotion and passion are going to be completely taken out of sex and relationships. Do you think a woman is going to feel wanted when you ask her shit like "Can I kiss you" or "Are you alright with this"? Do you think that makes her feel hot?
If you aren't good enough at nonverbal communication to go in for a kiss at the right time, then that's something you really need to work on. Everyone on this sub says the same thing about kissing, that you should establish eye contact beforehand and follow the 90/10 rule. If you're doing this, then she can and will refuse the kiss if she doesn't feel comfortable. If she's in a position where she can't dodge/refuse a kiss, then you fucked up, not by not asking for or establishing consent, but by creating an environment where the girl is trapped and you're controlling her.
There are still some verbal ways to communicate desires that aren't mood-killers (and these should be used for anything past 2nd base) but in general, nonverbal expression, escalation, and communication are supposed to be huge parts of seduction.
I understand what you're saying. From the OPs comments, he received ample non verbal indicators that suggest consent was given.
