Derp thoughts here:

Unless you're doing pick-up in a cheese factory, by cheesy, I mean tacky, phony, trite.

I think this is more of a social/gender/philosophical question but it's deep.

Women (generalizing here) enjoy entertainment that men might consider "cheesy", such as Twilight/Vampire Diaries/Grey's Anatomy/Scandal. Men think it's cheesy because they can't grasp the emotional rollercoaster that's happening on the show. The shows are intended to entertain women.

In a way, when we do pick-up, we give women something that is similar to real life romance/drama. That's why it works; the emotional experience is something women crave.

But if that's the case, is Pick-up really cheesy/tacky/phony? If you approach a girl and say something that women love to hear, but has been said more eloquently a million times before since the dawn of culture, is that tacky?

I don't think Pick-up is cheesy, personally, because it's enjoyable to know that I made a girl smile.

Likewise, it's awesome to have a girl really open up emotionally, get turned on, and return the energy to you.

Twilight/Vampire Diaries/etc...can't really defend them on a literature level, but it seems like women like them, so I'm not going to judge.

What do you think? Is pick-up cheesy?
