To elaborate on what ThrowawayPUA said, this is a red herring. It's not about "deeper" or "lighter" topics. It's about connection. Connection isn't facilitated by having a conversation about fluff, anymore than it's developed by having some "deep" philosophical conversation.

You get her talking about HER and follow that wherever it goes. You could kick it off with something as inane as Taylor Swift or how long she has lived in the area or where she grew up. Or something "deep." It doesn't matter. What matters is that you focus on what makes her tick, what she feels and thinks and why she thinks and feels those things.

The goal of conversation isn't to exchange information and have a dialogue. The goal is to seduce the woman. Your conversation must advance the seduction. The way to advance the seduction is to engage her emotions. If the woman is talking about things that emotionally engage her, then listen, because she is telling you what she's interested in and what gets her going.

It is all about who you meet. If you feel like all you get is cheesy pop topics, try some different place where the interests of people might be different. There are definitely girls that can talk with you in depth about almost anything, if you find the right one.

I was always strongly against learning anything about popculture since I don't care about it at all and I find it generally stupid. But it turns out, knowing at least a little helps. It is not good to look like complete ignorant no matter how ridiculous it is in this context.

(female here). I agree with the mod that talked about connection. Have you also thought that maybe it's the women you're picking up? (If they're all very similar).

Maybe it's also when you're meeting them, for example if you always meet right after work or in the middle of the week. I love deep conversation and have been studying philosophy for a few years now but sometimes if I'm caught after working at the computer for 4 hours straight, I really don't want to talk about if God is dead and would much rather just chat.

I have a feeling your real issue isnt what you are talking abt but rather that YOU talk TOO much. Back when I was struggling with my d2s, my friend told me a secret I will never forget: "people fall in love with people who will listen to their story". This means, have the girls talk more. Ask them open minded question. This way, they are more likely to fall for you instead of only the other way around.
