I worked as a gas station attendant. If they are attractive, they literally get hit on every 10 mins. The girl who I used to work with got like 10 phone numbers slipped to her per shift. If you want any chance you gotta talk to her. And don't worry about creeping her out, at a gas station you get to see EVERYONE including creepy guys you couldn't believe exist.

Do you visit the station often? Try striking a conversation if you buy something, make a comment about her change of whatever style if you notice, go on. People in retail don't always remember customers, their names or even sometimes their faces. If you really want to slip a note, make sure she knows it's from you at least :)

Don't slip her a note. The best thing you can do is be direct. Wait till she isn't busy then try to chat her up. Once she warms up to you, ask for her number

Here are some openers I use on clerks. Formally introduce yourself, make eye contact and shake over the counter. I usually throw the introduction 1/2 way into the banter, as an afterthought or a oh! I should introduce myself. My suggestion since you see her a lot is to ask for number on interaction/banter 2 if banter 1 went well. It changes the dynamic from, oh he was chatty because he wanted to ask me out, to oh he was chatty, enjoyed our banter, and then asked me out. Obviously you don't wait 2 if you see this girl once a month only.

If there is a line behind me:

"Hey, I hate the formal tropey writ-like way these interactions normally go. These guys behind us can hold for two seconds, while I sincerely as you about your day. How is your boy trouble lately?"

If no line:

"Do you know about people of walmart? I feel like there could totally be a people of XYZ shop." -lead into tell me about the regulars who come.

"I used to work as a _, and I always read don't flirt with clerks. But when I was working as _. I loved it when people flirted with me. Do you see a lot of action constantly being the prettiest girl in the room?"

(probably she will say, there are no girls here. "I know! You've got to feel like king of the candy shop! Beefcake everywhere.")

"Tell me, the craziest customer story you know. I accept apocryphal and epic myth type stories as well as ones you've run into personally."

"Do you ever critique what people are buying? Like, when they buy donuts and condoms, are you a little creeped out?" (I usually go with items that aren't creepy at all. Like when they buy laundry detergent and cantaloupe, are you a little weirded out?)

"I love BrandX and whenever I see someone buy BrandZ I want to stop people. Do you ever critique what people are buying, even in your head? What are weird combinations of things people have bought?" (This can sometimes fizzle if they say no. But that's okay, you can drop it and try something else later or directly after if their is no line.)

"What's your favorite item in this store?" (Similar, I've got money burning a hole in my pocket, what's your favorite item under 2$ in this store!)

I've scored dates but they've never been successful. I've never been into the girl after I got to know her or vice versa. You just can't tell a lot about compatibility from a clerk. I have been rejected using these openings but always politely and in a way where I didn't feel awkward going back. (Save once. A bakery where I ended up asking two girls out at the same place and was just like... whelp, I'm never going back. Probably mostly my insecurity looking back at it. But I didn't want to be the guy who hits on all the girls! Which... is what I am. Oh no, self realizations!!!!!!! /joke)

If rejected, here are two closers:

"Well, my heart is mortally wounded, but fret not, it's a quick healer. I'm also a little forgetful so if I'm overly flirtatious in future interactions, chalk it up to my degenerative brain disease rather than disrespect." cheeky wink "And let it be known, that I sincerely think you're lovely."

TL;DR Friendly banter on day 1, on day 2 friendly banter and ask for number.

I've never done this, so I'm putting it in a separate thread.

If you are a coward, and can't do banter/direct ask. Which is fine, we are all cowardly sometimes. Why not find something more creative than "What's your number, you're super cute."

Here is my suggestion.

Create a spygame with notes. I haven't worked out all the logistics but I'd start off with something like.

Slip the girl the note/game as you come in the door before you check out/or buy anything.

"Secret Spy Game through notes!

Super cute agent 008. You've been working under cover here for months. HQ has finally come up with more explicit directions. When the handsome albeit, shy, boy who gave you this note comes checks out, note what he's buying. Write it down, along with the prices. Another agent will come in later and give the passcode. "Ba-ba-black sheep."

If for some reason you are unable to complete this mission, rip this message in half, and return it to the shy boy along with his change. We do not want your cover compromised.

Have a nice day."

You could do a string of these or on #2 just say, "So there is a super mission coming up that will take you to xyz restaurant. Put your number here _____ and return it to agent handsome as he checks out. He will call you soon with more details."

If you score her number, drop the spy pretex and be like... so yeah I'm kind of shy but this was a cool way to get asked out, hopefully. derp.

Writing this out, actually just makes me want to do this.
