Not getting what you want sucks. But if you don't feel you could handle just friendship with someone you're attracted to right now, then you did the right thing by being honest about that. Feel better bro.

Yeah man. Sidestep that trap while you still can. Some may say that you should be able to be friends regardless, and that it is shallow to shut it down completely. But you know yourself best, and attraction can make you do and say some dumb ass stuff.

It's like if you have trouble sharing a bed with someone without making a move, just don't even try it unless you know what's on the table! What you did will help you keep focus, and will stop you from losing confidence in yourself by keeping yourself in control!

I can relate to this, a long time ago when I had no game I got basically friend zoned by this girl. I wasn't a complete pussy so I told her straight up I wasn't being interested in friends. Funnily enough within a few weeks she kept trying to message me and call me trying to talk, but I had made up my mind.

Looking back, I shouldn't have done it explicitly. I should have replied "Yeah sure we can be friends" and then just went no contact.

I think overall you made the right decision but you could have made it smoother. It sort of came off a little butthurt but at the same time you showed you aren't gonna be fucked around. Don't even think about it anymore, just learn and move on.
