Machine learning you say? Data scientist recruiter here - lookin for work, bud?
But in all seriousness - Avoid just exchanging information. The first dates where I've f-closed we learned almost nothing about each other beforehand. It seems counterintuitive, but try to keep conversation more entertaining, flirty, etc. rather than factual. Be an experience, not a mundane person who she can picture living a normal boring life.
Also, as another poster asked - are you pulling them home? Do you have some kind of flimsy excuse to ask her to your place to give her plausible deniability in her mind so she doesn't feel like a slut? Are you paining for the f-close? It shocked me how much just pushing for it makes the difference. Not forcing yourself on her or anything, but trying to initiate fucking even if you're not sure it'll work. I've had some really weird awkward dates where we didn't vibe at all but when I physically initiated it worked out. And I'm an average looking guy at best... Sometimes girls are just horny. If they're out on a date, that's fairly likely.

haha I was mostly joking. I don't really do data science I do more architecture/ops/fullstack development/database.

yeah dude i am a programmer as well and trust me I know how bad you want to talk about that shit. The thing is, girls don't give a fuck.
I would keep it simple and frame it differently.
"I work in artificial intelligence, Have you seen IROBOT? thats what I make."
maybe not exactly that but something that glorifies that and leave out anything technical.

"Imagine a vibrator that could learn exactly what you like and only get better over time. That day is coming. I have been sent from the future to prevent it and save mankind."
Can't fail. ;)

Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Not pushing for the f-close on the first date? Waiting a while before texting for date 2? Along with the usual smalltalk, I tend to talk about stuff I'm interested in at the moment, which at the moment is machine learning, automation and basic income; too nerdy or random for first date?
Yeah I think your problem might be talking too much about your interests, which can be seen as lacking emotional and conversational intelligence to some degree. It's fine to touch on it especially if you are really passionate about it and draw her into that passion but it shouldn't be a main point of discussion for too long. What I tend to do is only talk about my interests if I'm directly asked or I play them into some joke or teasing to keep it interesting but not too heavy at the same time.
On a first date I know the temptation is to get too eager to get to know each other extremely well but if you want to ramp it up sexually, keep it light and flirty and you'll be golden.

Are you going on dates at a location where it easy to f-close. Is your car clean? Is your apartment clean? Would women feel comfortable?

Absolutely 100% problem #1 is not f-closing on the first date. This should not be hard with good logistics.
Location 1: Restaurant or bar. Talk about interests, and suggest location 2 Kiss on the way to location 2 & leave her wanting more Location 2: Bar close to your place. Escalate kino Suggest leaving Kiss again. Longer and more passionately. While walking, suggest going back to your place for whatever. Honestly you don't even need an excuse. She says yes!
Problem #2: Talking about your interests is always good, but as the poster below said, it's about making it an experience. Don't be the guy that has the conversation that sounds like an OKC profile:
guy:"I like movies, what are your favorite movies?" girl: "I'm really digging the hunger games right now" guy: "I like Harry Potter. Do you like harry potter" girl: "I don't like harry potter" guy: "do you like twilight?" girl" I love twilight"
This is a slight exaggeration, and very simplistic, but it's good for illustrating my point. That conversation is about interests, but it's incredibly boring and robotic. You should talk about things that are related to the flow of the conversation, and not have it be a job interview.
This would be better:
guy: "There's some really amazing movies out right now, have you seen the hunger games?" girl: "I hate the hunger games!" guy: "WHAT? The hunger games is incredible. You don't know what you're talking about. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence is my future wife" girl: "hahaha what? Jennifer lawrence sucks, I think she's really annoying" etc. etc.
Again, that's a shitty example, but you should get the idea :)
