Honestly man, its all about having experience in these situations. If you're inserting yourself into a group like that, you have to be comfortable. Treat the girls like old friends, youre in a party atmosphere, people aren't looking to make connections, they are there to have fun. So don't ask 20 questions, let conversation flow off natural topics in the environment.

Open ended questions are the way to go. Build off their answers and ask why and how. Don't machine gun a bunch of unrelated questions better suited for an interview. Practice, gain more experience, and it'll become natural.

One thing I picked up on here was to insert the word "lately" into your questions to get them to think deeper before answering, e.g. "what have you been doing with your free time lately".

you should make more girl-friends to get the normal vibe of talking with girls . Be around them and get easy talking to them. one big thing, talking to girl is no logical job, its 80% bullshit that you wont care after an hour :D .. its some 80% about body language and tonality and what you speak is less important. like, see in films, how the actors do it all with dumb talking and all body language and tonality. more action like touching and less thinking. p.s. one thing is talk whatever the fuck comes in your mind. like, if you felt nervous while talking to those elder girls, you couldve said that and lead the convo anywhere while swiftly touching and caressing one's hair ;)
