I had the craziest realization today. There is a girl who I wanted to date my Freshman year. We will call her Jane. Jane was a beautiful, smart blonde who was perfection to me back then. I attempted to show the best side of myself to Jane and asked her out at one point, but Jane said I didn't have a shot. I slowly lost connection with her afterward. Now I see I dodged a bullet by not dating her, but that is beside the point.

Fast forward two years to today, and I am talking to two of my friends about a group project we are working on. We joke about the other groups. One of the groups we joked about has Jane in it and we get on the topic of Jane. One of my friends says, "Guys this is a touchy subject. /u/throwawaypokerplayer has history with Jane." I chuckle and say, "What is that supposed to mean?" He said, "Don't you remember? You hooked up with her for a solid hour at that party a few years ago."

That's when it hit me. I changed school between 8th grade and Freshman year. In the summer between 8th grade and Freshman year I had gone to a bunch of parties. I hooked up with a few girls without ever asking for their name. One of these girls was apparently Jane. Less than 6 months later she had rejected me.

So don't take rejections personally. There is a chance it wasn't even your fault for being rejected. Maybe if you had approached her in a different setting or on a different day she would have said yes.

PS. There was no alcohol at the party, so neither of us were intoxicated. My memory is just horrible.
