Is telling an interesting, detailed story reveal too much and leave not enough "mystery?"

I think telling one long and engaging story won't ruin your sense of mystery.

I have a very lovely story that I tell girls. It involves the struggle of learning to speak Italian, then going to Italy, then not understanding people and fearing that I'd fooled myself, only to realize it was an issue of local dialect, then traveling to another city where I suddenly found I understood everything and spoke fluently, and then after this emotional roller coaster of ups and downs, sitting in a quaint little restaurant where I was alone with the owner and we sat and talked for 2 hours, all in Italian, and he imparted onto me the greatest Italian wisdom, which I've carried with me every day since.

The whole thing is almost a 15-20 minute story, with thrills, struggles, doubt, triumph, and a life lesson at the end, and rather than killing mystery it only adds to my mystery. It communicates that I'm traveled, I'm educated, I'm a risk taker, I'm gregarious, and I'm also self aware... all of which make the ladies want to know more.

Interesting to you. Or to them?

Just like Chris Rock tweaks his jokes for his audience (eg a SONY Xmas party vs The Apollo theater full of black people who will laugh at his N jokes)

You should tweak the story for your audience.

Sometimes parts I think are small and pointless are the DHV spikes that hit the hardest.

Other times, because I know a girl is into certain things, I stress other points of the story.

One of the hardest things I had to learn about storytelling. Is we aren't giving a sworn statement in court. We are trying to entertain and have fun.
