I recently read a post by /u/iConsu talking about the lack of field reports and how it seemed that guys weren't going out and it got me thinking. I've spend a good few weeks now reading this stuff and it gave me the kick up the arse I needed to actually get out.

After work I went for a beer with a friend to my local pub and we had a chat and just chilled as normal. After an hour or so he said he had to get off and dropped me off at home. Usually I would just watch a movie by myself as I live alone, then get some sleep ready for work the next day.

Instead, I got back to my flat and thought screw this I want to go out. I called some friends but no-one would go to town with me, so I went by myself.

I drove 20 minutes into town and went to a trendy bar which had a jazz band playing. There were a few groups of girls, all sat down at tables watching the band. I just stood at the bar with a drink and watched the band to start with, I shared a laugh or two with a guy behind the bar who was dancing to the music and he kept me topped up on my 'lager shadies' (as I was driving). Once the band finished playing, one of the dudes playing came to the bar and I mentioned to him that it was an awesome vibe and I was enjoying it. We chatted casually for a while about his music etc and he went back to playing after the break.

At this point I realized I haven't actually spoken/approached any girls yet, just guys...no homo. I thought I'd switch venue and see what was happening at another bar, so I left and made a short walk to a rock bar. It was mostly empty apart from a few couples sat down, but I noticed a cute girl working behind the bar talking to a few people. After ordering a drink I made a joke about me drinking shady and she laughed. After the people she was talking to left I striked up a conversation with her across the bar about some awesome burgers they serve and we started talking about where she/I lived, where we went on a weekend to drink/party etc, just chilled conversation really. (she's paid to be polite right? haha). Anyway, after chatting for 5 - 10 minutes I said, "I'm [dude_wheres_my_cats] btw" and shook her hand, which she took and told me her name.

Anyway, after chatting and both having a laugh together I went to the toilet and came back to see her outside having a cigarette. I finished my drink and walked out the bar. As I walked out, admittedly I froze up a little and wasn't as relaxed as I was when talking inside. I know I should have said something like "its been nice chatting but I've got to shoot, we should do this again sometime etc", but in reality I walked out and said "no way your a dirty smoker?!" she laughed and I said "[her name], I don't suppose I could grab your number?". She said she had a boyfriend and I jokingly replied with a smile on my face "you don't want another one then?" to which she laughed. I said goodbye and she said it had been nice talking as I was walking away, to which I told her I'd be back for those awesome burgers someday.

I then decided to call it a night as it was getting late and headed home.

So that was my first night alone. I know I didn't K or F-close, I didn't even end up with a number, but I guess it's a start to a long journey. I'm glad I went and I'll be going again.

Tomorrow....day game on my lunch break! Lets do this.
