I hope it's ok to post this here. I wanted to write about a slightly odd date I had last night.

Background: I am new here. Just got out of a LTR, never really been on a cold date but I met this girl and seemed to click with her so I asked her out and she happily agreed.

So I arranged for us to go to an outdoor movie in a really nice historical garden park. We meet up an hour before so we can actually talk/hang out a bit. It seemed to be going ok. Wasn't really flirty or anything, just getting to know each other, sharing a few laughs, exploring the park etc. Then I realise the movie should be starting soon and she stops...pauses.... and says "I think I'm just going to go home." I was a quite stunned for a second and actually pretty hurt as we had been talking non-stop until then and things seemed ok. I paused for a few seconds and then reassured her that it's fine, no worries etc and generally remained as happy as I had been. We walk back to my car which was close by and I grab out a blanket and big pillow (I had also brought one for her but left it in the car since she now wasn't staying for the movie) because fuck it, I'm still going to watch the movie on my own. Then I offer to walk her to her car which she accepts. Her car was past where the movie was so I was getting two things done by carrying my stuff and walking with her. I deliberately didn't talk much. I never asked why she wanted to leave, and I wasn't interested in continuing any meaninful conversation at this point. While we were walking I pulled out my phone and called a friend who I knew was also going to the movie and mentioned sitting with them which they were super happy about of course, but they weren't there yet. When we get to the movie I drop my stuff in a comfy area and arrange my pillow etc. Then... for some reason the girl SITS DOWN beside where I set up. I just smile but inside im like 'wtf' so I sit down too and get comfy. So the movie starts, me with a warm blanket and big comfy pillow and her sitting on the grass kind beside me but also back a few inches so I can't see her out the side of my vision. I had planned it so we would have made a big comfy couch with the 2 giant pillows and a blanket under us and one over us but I had left all that in the car because I had thought she was leaving.

Anyway I get really in to the movie and Im laughing with some girls next to me who had sat down after us and I had exchanged hellos with. Pretty much ignored the girl I came with except once early on when told her she doesn't need to stay and she can leave if she wants, which she didn't respond to and kept looking at the movie screen.

About three-quarters through the movie the girl leans over and says "I really love the movie but I have an early morning and gotta go." I simply said "Ok see ya" then kept watching and didn't watch her leave.

Weird night. I'm going to try to not over-analyse this too much as it was my first date and may not have been acting completely genuine or relaxed or something and I think I'll be ok just rolling with it this early on, but any tips would be most welcome. Thanks for reading.
