A few days ago I went out for drinks with my girlfriend (met her over a month ago, GFed her last week). I met up outside a pub with a friend of mine + his girlfriend and all was fine and dandy. Then another friend came, who I consider my best friend (known him for over ten years). I should say he was wasted beyond belief; and when that happens he becomes really talkative and loud and more emotional, but generally not in a bad way.

My best friend is socially very dominant and pretty charming. He can get girls to fall for him easily. But despite all of that he is still a virgin. Lately I've been thinking that he's become a bit desperate/jealous since I've started fucking more girls and he feels he has to show that he's "better" than me.

As soon as he saw my GF (this was the first time they met) he started talking to her. It was mostly about random stuff and of course I didn't really mind and I started talking to my other friends. I kept up with the conversation my best friend and GF were having, dropping a few jokes here and there. At one moment we were talking about boners (you know how it goes) and my best friend basically hinted to my GF how big his dick is. He always does this when he's drunk; I don't know why and I never cared. But doing it to my GF? Not cool. At one point he started touching her (a fast touch on the knees whenever he lost her attention). He did this a couple of times until I got annoyed and said that we are going inside. He was visibly annoyed by this move.

Inside me and my GF both went to the bathroom. After we sat down at a table she whispered in my ear that she took of her panties (she knows this turns me on), but I was literally thinking "for me or for him?". Next, the same thing happened. My best friend claiming all of her attention and me pretty much talking to them and my other friends at the same time. Then suddenly my best friend yelled "Oooh, you watch that show too?! You're my hero! Let me hug you!" and he stood up with his arms spread out and she stood up and hugged him. This made me fucking furious and my first thought was to bash his face in. Even my other friend said "Uhh.. okay?". This was the moment where I decided to leave and go home. Again, he acted somewhat annoyed by this and my girlfriend said "aww, are we leaving already?". It was either that or I should have taken my best friend outside and tell him to calm the fuck down, but seeing how fucking drunk he was I figured I'd just call him the next day. On the way home I jokingly said "so that was [best friend's name]" and she replied "He's really nice!!". All I could utter was "..yep". I felt like a bitch.

I should note that I put "hitting on" between quotes, because throughout the night he never said something flirtatious or made sexual remarks (except for the big dick part). He just talked a lot and almost jumped on her (figuratively speaking). Also, throughout all of this my GF kept rubbing my legs and (as she got more drunk) my crotch. She also kept leaning against me and occasionally looked at me with a "what the fuck is going on?"-face. I just smiled at her, stroked her leg and put her at ease whenever she did this, but as the night progressed and everyone got more drunk she got a little more receptive of his moves and stories.

I don't blame her at all. I blame myself because I didn't really know how to handle the situation and I blame my best friend because I feel he betrayed me.

I called him the next day to tell him what's up and he was saying it wasn't his intention. He became upset and said "I'd rather shoot myself than doing something like that." or "I feel 0 attraction towards her". The day after that he texted me that he wants to talk about it because he really felt like shit. I'm basically gonna tell him what happened the whole night and that I don't accept it and if it happens more often he will lose a friend.

I apologize if my story seems a bit vague/incoherent. Being a great writer was never one of my ambitions. I believe my main question is how should I have handled this? Random guys hitting on my GF have never been a problem, but this kinda threw me off guard because I've always trusted my best friend and I wanted to trust him that night too.
