This mission is part of a series on helping us get over approach anxiety. For more info, check out this thread.

The mission

Go out and ask 20 people what the time is. You can ask guys, girls, whoever, it doesn't matter.

Why we are doing this

To get us used to approaching strangers on the street. No conversation needs to follow, we're just practicing going up to strangers and saying something.

All that matters is that you take the action. Any outcome after that is not at all important. First we get over our approach anxiety, and then later we learn how to do all the other stuff.

Once you are done:

  1. You just approached 20 people in one day. Go you. That's probably more strangers than I've spoken to in a day for a few years.
  2. Post below and share your experiences, talk about what happened, and reflect on how it went.

Estimated mission time:

About 1 hour

Now for some Q & A:

  • Isn't it weird to ask for the time when everyone has a mobile? Phones go flat. Don't worry, no one is gonna think it's weird. Someone asked me for the time just a few days ago. It's a perfectly normal interaction.
  • Isn't 20 a lot? Not when you can ask this to anyone on the street / in a mall. The only reason not to hit this would be if you live somewhere that's sparsely populated, or if everyone is hibernating for the winter.
  • This sounds too simple: Give it a shot anyway. It's a nice warm up for tomorrow exericse
