Sometimes you just have to look her in the eyes and smile in a confident way that says "Hey, I'm here. Let's do something?"

If she's into it, you'll get the receipt with a phone number. And an espresso on the house.

It doesn't work everytime, but I got two phone numbers this way.

(It works better if you're a "new regular" and go to the place a few times.)

There's a difference between a waitress who flirts/smiles for tips and who actually engage. If she just smiles lots and doesn't really engage in the conversation, probably just looking for a good tip.

But if she engages in a conversation, asks what your plans are, responds with more than just a 'that's nice', you can probably pull it off.

Usually if she asks I'll leave it fairly open ('I might go out to <place>, but am not sure yet') then I'll ask her. If she's free, I'll ask if she'll like to join when she's off work.

If she's off later, you can say another time, or make a different plan. Just engage in a natural conversation and make sure she is engaging in one back!

I've left mine on the receipt before and she's contacted me. Old school but it works.
