Are field reports useful here?

Imagine the following FR:

Saw a girl at a bar. She kind of looked at me so I opened:

GUY: ''Hi''

HB: ''Oh, hello''

GUY: ''Having a good night?''

HB: ''Yeah! What are you up too tonight?''

GUY: ''Not much. You?''

HB: ''I'm just waiting for a friend. Them guys over there were talking to me earlier. I hate guys like them. They just think of girls like a piece of meat!''

GUY: ''I don't think like that''

HB: Good.

GUY: Yeah

HB: So, who are you here with?

GUY: Them guys over there

HB: Oh. They look like fun

GUY: Yeah.

HB: so....

GUY: You've got really pretty eyes

HB: OH. Thanks

GUY: You're welcome

HB: Anyway, my friend should be here soon. I better go sit and wait for her

GUY: ok

Now, seddit would say that he done fine since what you say doesn't matter, it's how you say it (and since we don't know 'how' he said it...)

But on somewhere like RooshV, he'd get the following response:

Awful!!! You bored the poor girl to death. She asked you what you were up too tonight and you said ''Not much''......NOT MUCH!!!? Makes you sounds boring as hell. You should have told her you were on a treasure hunt or something! Never say 'not much'!! Give her an emotional spike in some way!! She tells you that she doesn't like it when guys talk to her like a piece of meat and you qualify yourself like a desperate wimp. You should have said ''But you ARE just a piece of meat...I'm with them!!''. It playfully DISqualifies yourself! She tells you your friends look like fun and yuo say 'yeah''....YEAH???!! WRONG thing to say!! Where's you personality? Then you give her a compliment about a part of her body (not ideal) and to make it worse, you just say ''you're welcome'' after she thanks you, putting more pressure on her and making her feel awkward. And then you just say 'ok' and let her go?!! You could have said something to tease her for leaving you etc etc

So I don't know which school of thought is correct, but that's the difference I see when it comes to field reports

The age of field reports being useful are long gone in my opinion. They are relics from the past that are no longer needed.

Back in the day, negs/push pull/kino ..... all of that stuff...was in the R&D phase. No one knew what they were doing really. They were shared for the purpose of trying to figure these things out.

Like....omg she reacted like THAT? Let's break this shit down boys, I will try it a few times tonight too....we may have something good here. Will report back later, over and out. lol. When you got to know a poster you would be able to tell if they really went out alot or if they were just bullshitting.

The type of things we were figuring out sharing field reports are all solved now. All the major stuff has been rigorously field tested and there isn't any room for pioneering when it comes to the basics.

As far as your breakdown of the example in the OP....It really isn't a good idea to make conclusions from a typed up FR because no one was there to see it. The nonverbals could have been entirely responsible and the info you need to know what was going on isn't even in the FR.

Opinions are like assholes, maybe a guy nails what happened, maybe he didn't. Everyone is an armchair critic on the internet, yada yada. What I suggest paying attention to, is when a guy does something unconventional in a FR and claims he got an interesting reaction....that was always were the value in them was.

Try it yourself a few times if you like what you read and see if there is any merit to it.

At the basic level, yes. Back in the primordial days of the community no one really knew how important a different approach is for talking to a 7 vs a 10 for example. Lots of guys were using NLP techniques with no social tactics at all like we have now.

FR's is how there was a consensus on what worked and what didn't work in general. This was before the big industry boom and all the bootcamps came out and shit. You had to test what you thought was interesting to verify it was actually useful and reputations were built based on whose shit checked out and whose didn't.

All that basic stuff is well established at this point though. We know not to blow up a girls phone for sure now, we know that kino escalation is definitely effective, etc. That is where FR's really shined, that is how the terminology got created and the techniques got popular to begin with.

I think you are taking "what you say does not matter" to an unreasonable extreme. You say a lot of stuff nonverbally even beyond words. How you look at her, how you touch her, how you say the words that you do say in your tone, etc. All of that does matter.

I think it is more accurate to phrase it as "How you say something is more important than your literal word choice". I think the phrase you are using is great as used as a food for thought proverb, but not as an absolute.

Even if someone ''said something unconventional' and got an interesting reaction, there'd still be no value since what you say doesn't have any impact, and unless one can somehow describe 'how' he said it there'd be nothing to learn, no?

A big reason why I think FR's are outdated, how he said it and how he felt when he said it is information you do not have access to. It is possible to learn a lot by his mindset he had by what he said if you know how to read them correctly, how well the FR was written matters too...but if you are just learning, you do not need to do that these days.

All the information you need to get started is written down elsewhere and there are videos on it freely available, tons of guys can vouch that yes such and such techniques/mindsets work.

The value you could get out of a field report though, is if a guy tries something interesting you haven't seen anywhere else and it's new to you....just mentally file it away and try it out a few times next time you are out.
