More often than I would like, I have had people tell me how awkward I am. I've also had people tell me I'm cool as shit as well, so I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. However, I do believe that I get awkward sometimes when I'm dealing with people I think are intimidating or nerve-wracking.

Usually when people tell me things like I'm weird, awkward, etc. I laugh and say, "I'm glad you think so" or something to just roll with it or let it roll off my back. Behind the scenes, however, it does hurt me a little bit. I think the more I worry about it though, the more I try to validate myself to others, which is something I have struggled with in the past, so now I don't even worry about it to avoid that "qualifying" situation.

A lot of times I actually choose to remain soft-spoken, as in the past I've tried to be talkative or tough, and that only makes me look like an insecure ass that doesn't know what he's actually doing or talking about. Even if I try to be "smooth" with women, I just end up saying things that genuinely makes them turn their head or get weirded out, which obviously isn't my intention. So, the thing that I'm finding has been working for me is to just be polite, easy going, and humble, without being too much of a pushover. I have heard girls whisper how sexy I am behind my back, and have had others clearly come onto me (when I was also too naive to understand they were into me) and that was all when I've just been quiet and overly kind to people. Some people are even surprised at how nice of a person I can be, I've had some people sling insults or criticisms at me and I legitimately respond politely, in which they act confused or perplexed.

And then when I've tried "being" a certain way, that's when I've built up so many bad opinions for myself. That all stems from my old self-opinion that I need to "do more" to impress people. It was only recently that I realized how truly insecure that has probably made me seem, so now I'm beginning to learn how to just chill out and keep my mouth shut rather than speak up and say something.

My dad has been diagnosed as aspergerish, I've been to one or two therapists, and I don't believe I have any kind of aspergers or anything of the sort. I think I just grew up in a sheltered and socially removed household. My therapist did raise the question that I may have some kind of attention-deficit disorder, and I'm currently waiting for a psychologist appointment where they will be able to give me formal tests to test for certain if I have anything.

Or I could just be really awkward. Does anyone have any background like this? Has anyone ever been told they're awkward or weird? How do you deal with this? How does that impair your ability to get with good looking women? I'd really like some feedback or advice on this. Thanks.
