Take a rider training course. What you learn will save your life. Don't get anything over 600 cc for a first bike and don't get a sport bike for a first bike. Join a motorcycle forum and start reading.

Just like learning anything in this day and age, go find a message board or forum, read, read, read, then join and ask questions.

Depends on whether you want a cruiser or a sports bike. Both ride very differently. Both invite different types of crowds. Take the safety course for the license. They will have both types of bikes at 250cc. If you have any other questions let me know. I also suggest getting a really good helmet and Armor.

Get a Ninja 500. It's a LOT less powerful than a 600cc bike. I'm on my cell phone but there are so many reasons that you don't need the 600 and certainly not anything more powerful, especially for the first bike you own. Take a basic rider course. Practice practice practice. Its nothing to correct and since we're on this subreddit I have to say it. This is nowhere to skip common sense and safety for the sake of appearing alpha etc. wear your gear. Learn how to ride well. You're almost guaranteed to drop it. It's not if, it's a when.

I've been riding sport bikes for 12 years. I was pretty involved in the stunt scene for a few years and would say I'm more advanced than most riders, yet that sub is filed with pricks- so I'm glad you came here. Take a safety course, get a 600 and start slow. If you buy a 250/500 you'll get bored pretty quick. The newer 600's have a system where you can select different riding modes. This adjusts the timing, valves, throttle input and limiters. As long as you are not riding like an asshole you can remain pretty safe. (Knock on wood) I've never gone down on the street.
