Well, usually I go for coffee first to see if there is chemistry, and then do a proper date. In your situation I guess you could try prayer if you're religious.

If you establish a good non verbal connection you will be able to have sub conversations without words, u will feel out how that person wants to be treated. Make relaxed eye contact with the back of her eyes until you see her soul and she melts, make friendzone a non option.

So you basically don't know this person and I presume you are going to pay her share of the bill. She might turn up the most boring person ever with a big appetite. That will put you into overinvested scenario and you will be at disadvantage.

I go on coffee date in the afternoon first. To get the vibe. Everyone pays their own drink and it's fair. They don't know me yet, I don't know them yet at that point. If the vibe is good, I suggest moving to another spot.

The second date is actually the first date. Because by that point I know what she has in common with me, what she likes that I do too and we can actually go somewhere and do something interesting. At that stage dinner is also OK, because I know what culinary preferences we share and we had discusses good food spots already.
