That study showed among 18-22 year old Tinder users, only 4% (yes 4) were looking for a relationships, while 44% were using it to waste time or get a confidence boost.

I think it's possible the outcomes could differ from intentions (i.e. a woman looking for a confidence boost could ultimately get in a relationship if a guy played his cards right), but it still shows why a lot of people are on the app.
