This field report is mostly to cover things I know I need to improve and hopefully get some feedback on things I'm fucking up on. I'm no stranger to actually succeeding in picking up girls when I go out solo, but it tends to be hit or miss, and I don't go out often enough.

I start out on Saturday going to a bar and watching the ALCS game, drinking beer and eating wings, conversing with people to my left just having friendly conversation. It's good to start out getting in the mood of being social but I still don't feel like I'm being social or open enough with just conversing. In the back of my head I think that I just don't actually give a shit about asking the person where they're from/they're background/etc. and I really hate that. I wish I could be more curious about who they are and their life-story. But regardless my team wins, and I'm feeling good, pay the tab and go back home.

Now I'm just sitting around with nothing to do. No plans. I really like being by myself and I'm naturally very introverted, but of course it's Saturday night and feel like doing shit. There's a hipster club in my city (I live in a big city so there's usually plenty going on), that I've gotten laid at everytime I've been to (one on a tinder date, a girl from kickball, and the last was two weekends ago which was the first time going out in awhile). So I decide to take my chances and get an uber there. So I'm not very social with the uber, can tell the dude probably doesn't speak English as first language, so it's kind of an awkward ride. Get to the club and it's packed, 80's night, so pretty fun.

I stand at the bar for awhile, downing gin and tonics hopefully to get some liquid courage. Talk to a few people but the conversations go nowhere. And I mean nowhere. One girl who was waiting for a drink, talking to her about inane things for a few seconds, then we both just kind of look away, she says it was nice meeting you, introduces herself, and goes off to I assume where her friends were. Another really cute hippy chick was sitting on the barstool behind me, I didn't see her at first and nudged her, she playfully asks me something but I can't hear because of the crowd. She has a sexy accent though. I introduce myself and it starts off okay but like the first conversation just falls completely flat. She smiles, touches my chest, and turns off toward the dance floor.

So I feel like a shit-head that can't even keep up a conversation. Two weekends ago I was at this same club, chatted up a cute girl next to me at the bar, and we ended up dancing the night away and she came back to my place. I was pretty fucking drunk that night, so I assumed I could repeat that by doing the same tonight. So I order a few more g&ts, down those and just wall-flower next to the dance-floor. It takes me a solid while before I actually start moving and just break out on to the dance-floor. I see the cute hippy chick dancing by herself on one of the stages. In super fucking awkward form I approach her and say "Hey ___, right? How's it going?" Like come on that was what I think to say? Needless to say she just kind of smiles and keeps dancing.

I feel like a dumb-ass again and head back to the bar, down some more drinks and feel better. I head back to the dance-floor, I start making my way back to the hippy chick when this really cute, Italian looking girl eyes me down and we start dancing on the floor. It's going fantastic! I'm cutting a rug with her, and her cute blonde friend and I assume her friend's boyfriend show up and we all start dancing. Others join in. She reveals that they're rolling on molly, and I reveal that I'm just drunk. I honestly felt like everything was working out.

They start to leave and I kind of follow, they don't seem bothered but maybe they weren't motioning for me to come? Or her friend said to ditch me? I dunno honestly. But we get out and they're getting an uber to go back to the chick's place and smoke weed. I'm tagging along, we blonde friend stumbles onto the ground. She had been giving me the "fuck me" eyes for awhile now but also to others at the club, so I honestly felt bad for the boyfriend, who seemed pretty sober honestly. But I'm fucking around with them while they wait for their uber. The chick I was focused on tells me I can't go with them, because her dog wouldn't like me. I think it's a shit-test, but I reply that I love dogs and ask her what type. She tells me, and we kind of flirt. Their uber shows up and they get in, and before they get in I get her number. She mentions something about calling her.

So they leave, I call her number so she can see mine, she answers and says "Hey is this ___?" bunch of other noise I can't hear and they hang up. I honestly still feel good at this point, but I end up fucking it up by texting her like three times that night. So fucking stupid.

I sent her the first text "Hey it's Nathan from the club name, let's grab a drink sometime". Like honestly she knows who the fuck it is, so why did I send that? Then on my uber ride home I send "Your sweatiness is a total turn on btw." ... I don't even need to get in to how stupid that text is, but the whole time I was hanging with her she kept grabbing my hand to feel her sweat on her chest. Then I follow that up with "And your pomeranian would probably kick my ass." ... Again, wtf?

So yeah that was my night. Not a colossal failure because I actually forced myself to go out and meet new people. But I also fuck it up. She obviously started out interested, but it seemed like they were just too fucked up to do anything. I kind of felt like a creep following them out of the club, but I was getting vibes from her to follow them. I don't know.

I honestly feel clueless most of the time in these situations, and just miss signals left and right. Like I've said I've gotten lucky before because I am tall, attractive, and when I'm drunk easy to be around, but I feel socially inept a lot of the time. I need to work on just meeting and hanging out with everyone, not just solely latching on to someone I treat as some kind of target or something. I need to learn when to stop. When to just get the number and bounce, focus on other shit. I need to learn how to keep up a conversation instead of asking "How's it going?" to a girl that just wants to dance.

Anyways whoever has read this whole thing: thank you. Any suggestions are appreciated.
