If both know that you're not exclusive and seeing other girls, then it's unlikely to be a problem when they find out. What is likely to happen is that at that point they'll want you to go exclusive - a girl can entertain the idea that there might be another girl on the scene, but knowing who she is and it being a friend will be too much to take. You'll then be in the position of having to choose. The girl you don't choose may start hating you and the winner may hold ruining her friendship against you.

It might all work out, but it's a minefield.

Yes. It's a very bad idea. The best thing for you to do, if you want to date multiple women at the same time, is to friend multiple groups of girl friends (that don't know each other) and date one women in each group. After you stop dating one women you can date another from the same group (after some weeks, of course).
