If the guy hasn't talked to the girl, how can he have honest feelings about liking her? Asking out a girl you don't know just means "I like the way you look" and not "I like you".

Granted, it might still work. But most girls will prefer thinking you like their personality and not just their looks.

They prefer push-pull.

You can go either way, direct or indirect but just keep in mind that you need to temper any interest/disinterest you show her.

The only consideration to make if going direct is the social pressure. You shouldn't do it in front of a bunch of people in the gym. Try your best to make it just the two of you or just you, her and her friends. If you can't manage to get talking with her without the likelihood of causing a scene if you went direct then go indirect.

Make friends at the gym, be known and build social value If you don't want to appear "creepy". If you really like her just tell her that you want to take her out. No girl is going to the gym to meet new guys but to exercise.
