Should you confirm a date before the date?

I’ve gotten mixed advice on this

Some say that confirming a date beforehand increases the chance of a flake, and no contact should be the policy once a date is set, unless she messages you first.

However, I’ve also heard that you should confirm once, right before the date and this supposedly decreases the chance of a flake

which way is correct?
